Eurostar and Le Shuttle services between the UK and France have resumed through the Channel Tunnel after major travel disruption on Tuesday.
Thousands of passengers faced hours of delays after Eurostar cancelled most of its London to Europe services due to an overhead power supply problem and a failed Le Shuttle train which blocked all routes.
Repair work took place overnight, and rail services through the tunnel in both directions resumed on Wednesday morning. However, Eurostar urged passengers to check before travelling due to possible knock-on delays and last-minute cancellations.
Most of Eurostar's Wednesday morning services in and out of London St Pancras have departed, with only three services towards Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam cancelled.
Eurostar apologised for the inconvenience and announced one extra London to Paris service would run on Wednesday, with customers entitled to enhanced compensation options including a 100% ticket refund and a 150% e-voucher.
Le Shuttle services from Folkestone are running normally, though there are delays of up to an hour at Calais.
Getlink, the operator of the Channel Tunnel, confirmed that repairs had been ongoing to fix the power issue that caused the disruption, which affected New Year’s Eve travel plans for many.
Passengers stranded in London St Pancras posted images on social media showing the extensive delays. Some passengers even had to return to London after lengthy waits, while others devised alternative travel arrangements to reach their destinations.
