For the second time in a row, a small region of Florida experienced snow on Sunday morning, as freezing air swept through the western Florida Panhandle. This unusual weather phenomenon transformed rain showers into snowflakes, surprising residents in the typically warm Sunshine State.
This snowfall is reminiscent of last year's event on January 21, 2025, when some areas received up to eight inches of snow, the most substantial accumulation in over a century. Families like Danielle Brahier's in Holt, who awoke to the sight of snow, rushed outside to enjoy the fluffy powder—enough for snowballs and snowmen.
It was phenomenal. Not anything you’d expect two years in a row, remarked Jim Keith, a local enjoying his morning coffee as he watched the snow fall. Families shared moments of joy on social media, posting photos of snowflakes on beaches and nestled in palm fronds.
In nearby regions, including Southeastern Alabama and Southern Georgia, snowfall was also reported, inspiring conditions fit for a winter wonderland. Meanwhile, the northern states contended with blizzard warnings, forcing many to stay vigilant as winds of up to 50 mph created dangerous conditions.
With this unexpected weather, locals ponder whether snow in Florida might become a more frequent occurrence in the future.
