Violence continued to grip Northern Ireland for a third night, with police clashing against anti-immigrant rioters across several towns, including Ballymena and County Antrim. The unrest began on Monday and escalated dramatically as masked groups engaged in violent confrontations with law enforcement. In Ballymena, rioters threw petrol bombs and bricks, while in Larne, approximately 20 miles away, a leisure center serving as emergency housing for families was set ablaze.

The local authorities later confirmed that all displaced families had been safely relocated after the arson incident. This outbreak of violence has been attributed to “hate-fueled” attacks, which surfaced following distressing news of an alleged sexual assault in the town over the weekend.

Northern Ireland’s power-sharing executive issued a joint statement condemning the reverberations of "racially motivated violence," attributing the disorder to those seeking to exploit the situation to incite further tension within communities. The statement highlighted that such individuals "do not care about seeing justice" but rather promote division.

At least 32 police officers sustained injuries during the recent clashes. In response to the unrest, the Police Service of Northern Ireland requested mutual aid from the UK, with the police in Scotland confirming deployment of additional officers.

The agitation began following the appearance of two 14-year-old boys in court, charged with the attempted oral rape of a teenage girl, a case that sparked outrage and was quickly amplified by far-right social media activists.

On Wednesday afternoon, the streets of Ballymena displayed a precarious calm, with children watching silently from their homes as heavily armored police units patrolled the area. Many houses showed signs of distress, with boarded windows and visible symbols manifesting residents' affiliations. However, as darkness fell, the tensions reignited, leading to confrontations between the police and rioters, who hurled fireworks and projectiles.

The ongoing confrontations continued to disrupt the community landscape, with further protests anticipated amid an impending weather warning for rain and thunderstorms.
