Donald Trump is the only world leader capable of stopping Vladimir Putin from threatening Europe, according to Poland's President Karol Nawrocki.

In an interview with Radio 4's Today programme, he stated that the Russian leader was untrustworthy, and emphasized the necessity for Europe to support Trump's initiatives to end the war in Ukraine.

President Nawrocki, who has been a staunch supporter of Trump, reiterated that with Putin's aggressive actions jeopardizing Poland and Eastern Europe, the former US president was uniquely positioned to resolve these challenges and help conclude the conflict.

He referenced last September's significant drone incursion into Poland, where over 20 uncrewed aircraft breached Polish airspace, describing it as an extraordinary occurrence. He articulated concerns that Russia was testing not only Poland's defenses but also NATO's unity.

Thanking the UK for sending RAF Typhoon jets to bolster Polish security, Nawrocki commented that Poland has been embroiled in a 'hybrid war' with Russia since 2021, characterized by drone activity and disinformation campaigns.

In discussing his relationship with Trump, especially against the backdrop of Trump's controversial statements about Greenland, Nawrocki maintained that the United States remains the security backbone of Europe, with Trump's actions deserving both respect and support.

Nawrocki cautioned against European leaders' focus on less pressing ideological issues—like climate policy and migration—arguing they were undermining the continent's defense readiness. He highlighted Poland's commitment to defense, with nearly 5% of GDP directed to military expenditure.

Furthermore, he expressed appreciation for the ties between Poland and the UK, noting the presence of around one million Poles in Britain, and commended British soldiers stationed in Poland for their role in NATO's Eastern flank.
