A man has been charged with murder after a seven-month-old baby died following a shooting incident in New York. Amuri Greene, 21, has been charged with three counts of murder and one of attempted murder after police accuse him of fatally shooting Kaori Patterson-Moore on April 1.
Greene appeared in court on Friday, where he pleaded not guilty, according to CBS News, the BBC's US partner. The police suspect that the baby was an unintended victim of a gang-related shooting.
Another suspect, Matthew Rodriguez, 18, has been arrested in connection with the shooting in Pennsylvania, with charges pending against him.
Footage from the incident shows two men on a motorcycle riding against traffic in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn. As they passed by, a man on the back pulled out a gun and fired. Police believe Greene was the shooter and was on the back of the scooter.
Following the incident, Greene was thrown from the vehicle, sustaining injuries that required hospitalization, where he was placed in police custody.
He is also facing charges of five counts of criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of attempted criminal possession of a weapon, and two counts of assault. Rodriguez is believed to be the driver of the scooter involved in the shooting who fled after crashing into oncoming traffic.
Family and friends gathered on Friday night for a candlelight vigil at the scene to remember the young victim.
