Police have yet to identify the motive behind these horrific killings or the criminal factions responsible. Local reports detail that a blanket was discovered at the scene featuring a warning message addressed to rival gangs, allegedly signed by a lesser-known group referred to as "La Barredora," which translates to "the sweeper." This group's affiliation with the attack has not been confirmed, nor is it clear why they might have targeted this particular area.

The Tlaxcala prosecutor’s office stated that the severed heads belonged to men, and an investigation into their deaths has commenced, as reported by AFP news agency. In this region, issues extend beyond drug trafficking to the illegal trade of fuel, known as "huachicoleo," which fuels immense financial gains for those engaged in these illicit activities.

As of now, federal authorities have remained silent concerning these recent killings, which emerge amid a broader crackdown on fentanyl trafficking led by President Claudia Sheinbaum's administration. Historically, Puebla and Tlaxcala have enjoyed relative peace compared to the extreme violence witnessed in other regions. For comparison, in June, 20 bodies were uncovered in Sinaloa, including four that had been decapitated, and in May, seven young people were gunned down during a Catholic Church festival in Guanajuato.

The ongoing violence between cartels continues to escalate in Mexico, with a staggering number of lives lost and missing individuals since the military's engagement against these groups began in 2006.
