McEWEN, Tenn. (PulseWire) — Authorities have released the names of the 16 individuals who died in a tragic explosion at a rural Tennessee explosives plant last week. As the community of McEwen comes to terms with this shocking loss, officials have pledged to conduct a thorough investigation to ascertain the cause.

The Sheriff of Humphreys County, Chris Davis, noted the tight-knit nature of the community where many likely had personal connections to the victims of the blast that occurred at the Accurate Energetic Systems facility, a major employer in the area known for supplying military explosives.

Church services provided a space for many to express their grief, with one congregation mourning the loss of their pastor, Trent Stewart. His fiancée, Katy Stover, shared on social media, expressing the overwhelming support they received from the community during this time.

This past Sunday, The Log Church in Waverly hosted a service filled with tributes for Stewart, highlighting the impact he had on those around him. According to Stover, the turnout was “packed out,” showcasing the community's solidarity.

Reyna Gillahan, another victim, had aspirations of providing a brighter future for her family. Following the explosion, her daughter launched fundraising efforts to honor her mother’s memory.

At a press conference, Sheriff Davis and the sheriffs from neighboring counties listed the names of those who lost their lives, which included Jason Adams, Billy Baker, Christopher Clark, LaTeisha Mays, and many others, underscoring the magnitude of the tragedy.

The explosion, which was felt over 20 miles away, left a scene of devastation, making it critical for authorities to clear the remnants of the plant while ensuring the safety of the surrounding area. Matthew Belew, acting head of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, commented on the challenge of investigating the blast, stating, “It’s almost like putting a puzzle back together.”

The Accurate Energetic Systems plant is located in a heavily wooded area and comprises eight production buildings alongside a lab, serving as a significant employer offering competitive wages to local workers.

As the investigation unfolds, the local community remains united in healing from this profound loss, rallying together to support each other through this difficult time.
