Ghana Mourns Its Tallest Man – A Generous Giant Passed Away

The death of Sulemana Abdul Samed, Ghana's tallest man, has sparked an outpouring of grief, especially in the north where his 7ft 4in stature made him a local celebrity.

Sulemana, 33, died on Monday in a Tamale hospital, where he had been admitted for infected leg sores linked to his gigantism.

He was diagnosed with Marfan syndrome in his twenties, causing his limbs to grow unusually large. Despite hardships and financial barriers, a benefactor, Ibrahim Mahama – brother of former President John Mahama – recently covered his medical expenses.

Family members say the death was sudden, but Awuche had kept a positive outlook and enjoyed his celebrity. He will be buried in Tamale to avoid overwhelming crowds.

The community in Gambaga feels a sense of loss, as Awuche had become part of their identity and brought attention to the village.
