Singer Chappell Roan has announced she is leaving the talent agency led by Casey Wasserman, whose name has surfaced in connection with Jeffrey Epstein's legal troubles. Roan stated her decision is rooted in a 'duty to protect her team' and a belief that 'meaningful change in our industry requires accountability.'
This announcement comes in light of revealed emails from Wasserman to Ghislaine Maxwell that included flirtatious content dated back to 2003, which have sparked considerable backlash. These revelations were uncovered through public filings related to Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted pedophile.
In her statement shared on Instagram, Roan emphasized, 'As of today, I am no longer represented by Wasserman.' She further declared that 'no artist, agent or employee should ever be expected to defend or overlook actions that conflict so deeply with our own moral values.'
Although Roan did not refer to Epstein specifically, the context of her split highlights a growing unease within the music industry about the agency's leadership. The BBC has contacted Wasserman for comment regarding Roan's departure, as well as the scrutiny he faces concerning his past interactions with Maxwell.
Wasserman, who also chairs the forthcoming Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, expressed regret over the emails exchanged with Maxwell. He stated that his interactions with her occurred long before the gravity of her crimes became known, reinforcing that he has had no personal or business relationship with Epstein.
Roan's decision follows similar moves made by other artists represented by Wasserman, who have voiced their desire to distance themselves from the agency in light of the Epstein revelations.
