Chris Brown, the 36-year-old Grammy Award-winning singer, made headlines again as he appeared at Southwark Crown Court in London to face two new charges stemming from an alleged bottle attack at the Tape nightclub on February 19, 2023. His not guilty plea was entered regarding accusations of actual bodily harm against music producer Abraham Diaw, as well as for possessing a tequila bottle as an offensive weapon.

These charges were added to a previous more serious accusation of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) to which he had also pleaded not guilty. The upcoming trial is scheduled for October 2026. During the court appearance, Brown dressed sharply in a brown suit and dark glasses, and acknowledged approximately 20 fans who arrived to show their support.

According to prosecutors, Diaw was struck multiple times with a bottle while at the bar inside the renowned London venue. Following the incident, Brown was arrested in May at the Lowry hotel in Greater Manchester during his preparations for a European tour. He spent almost a week in custody before being released on bail after paying a security fee of £5 million, a financial commitment to ensure his return to court.

As part of his bail conditions, Brown is required to reside in the UK and has surrendered his passport, although arrangements were made for him to retrieve it for tour dates. His Breezy Bowl XX world tour commenced on June 8 in Amsterdam, continuing through various locations in the UK and Europe, with the North American segment set to begin later this month.

In addition to Brown, his co-defendant, 39-year-old Omololu Akinlolu, also known as HoodyBaby, has pleaded not guilty to the same charges of actual bodily harm and attempted grievous bodily harm. Brown remains a prominent figure in R&B, celebrated for chart-topping hits and multiple Grammy accolades.
