Crown Princess Mette-Marit Addresses Epstein Links Amid Son's Rape Trial

Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway has given a much-anticipated interview about her contacts with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, set to broadcast on NRK TV. This interview is timely, coinciding with the conclusion of her son Marius Borg Høiby's trial for serious charges, including rape.
Høiby's trial commenced in February, leading to increased public scrutiny regarding Mette-Marit’s associations with Epstein revealed through numerous email correspondences. Mette-Marit has acknowledged exercising poor judgment in the past, and has been under pressure to address these links publicly.
During the interview, recorded at their Skaugum residence, she expressed remorse for her past connections to Epstein and reflected on the complexity of the situation as family and public pressures converge. Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre has also remarked on her poor judgment, adding to the royal family's current challenges.
Despite stepping into the public conversation, the crown princess is navigating her son's legal troubles while dealing with her own health issues, notably pulmonary fibrosis, which has kept her from participating in several royal engagements.
The scrutiny faced by Mette-Marit not only stems from her links to Epstein but also the high-profile nature of her son's trial, which many consider a significant scandal for the Norwegian royals. As the trial concludes with Høiby facing charges ranging from rape to drug offenses, the verdict is awaited while public interest in the royal family's accountability and transparency continues to grow.
