On Wednesday, the heartwarming Paddington Bear statue was unveiled once again in Newbury, England, to the delight of locals and visitors. Now wearing his signature red bucket hat and classic blue coat, Paddington sits with a label around his neck that reads, “Please look after this bear.” The festive atmosphere was enhanced by the beautiful spring weather, drawing both children and adults to witness the joyous return.

Last month, two men from the British Royal Air Force vandalized the statue, resulting in only the shell of the beloved bear remaining. In response, a judge ordered the pair to complete 150 hours of community service and pay a restitution amount of 2,725 British pounds—approximately $3,500—for the damages. The statue was part of a collection of 23 installations across Britain and Ireland, created to promote the release of “Paddington in Peru.” Of special significance, this statue is placed in Newbury, the hometown of Michael Bond, the author of the cherished children's series.

Both vandals have expressed their remorse for the act. With the statue now restored, it seems this chapter has concluded, echoing the wise words of Paddington’s Aunt Lucy: “If we’re kind and polite, the world will be right.” Paddington is once more looked after by the local community and can be found peacefully enjoying his marmalade sandwich.
