Veenu Bhai, who sustained a fractured arm during the carnage, described the tumultuous scene, stating that children were screaming and people were confused about what was happening. Another victim, Prashant Satpathy, was shot while exiting a ropeway, as described by his wife Priyadarshini.
The assault, one of the most devastating in years, appears to have deliberately targeted non-Muslims, with several eyewitness accounts indicating potential religious motivations. However, the Indian government has yet to clarify the specifics of the targeting.
In heartbreaking moments captured on video, Narwal’s wife, Himanshi, recalled her husband's final moments when an attacker inquired about their faith before fatally shooting him. Marking a day of mourning, schools and businesses across Kashmir remained shut in protest. Residents expressed apprehension regarding the future of tourism in the region, fearing the attack would deter visitors and severely hurt the local economy.
