The incident occurred on October 16, when Payne, 31, plunged from the third floor of the CasaSur hotel. The hotel’s manager, Gilda Martin, and an employee named Esteban Grassi, along with Payne's friend Roger Nores, have all been charged with manslaughter. Additionally, two hotel workers, identified as Braian Paiz and Ezequiel Pereyra, are charged with supplying drugs linked to Payne's final hours.

As reported by Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor's Office, two of the accused have been ordered to remain in custody. They are expected to appear in court within 24 working hours, although their identities have not been disclosed.

Following the singer's death, toxicology reports indicated the presence of alcohol, cocaine, and an antidepressant in his system. A post-mortem examination concluded that Payne suffered "multiple trauma" and internal bleeding due to the fall. Furthermore, the prosecutors stated his medical reports suggested he may have been semi-conscious at the time of the incident, indicating he was likely unaware of his surroundings.

Witnesses including Nores remarked that Payne appeared cheerful just an hour before the accident, complicating the narrative around his last moments. Preliminary investigations revealed evidence of drug use and considerable damage within Payne's hotel room, alongside emergency calls from hotel staff concerned about the singer's well-being.

Throughout his career, Payne rose to fame as a prominent member of One Direction, following his debut on The X Factor and continued success with the band until their hiatus in 2016. His passing has been met with widespread mourning, including attendance from his former bandmates at his funeral last month in Amersham, Buckinghamshire.
