A 22‑year‑old Perth resident has been charged by the WA Joint Counter Terrorism Team (JCTT) with planning a terrorist attack, according to a statement released on Friday, October 30, 2026. The man, who was initially arrested in December 2025, faces a total of ten charges.

The JCTT said the original nine offences relate to "misdemeanor terrorism activities," and the additional charge is for "other acts done in preparation for, or planning, terrorist acts."

Investigators claim the accused sought advice on messaging platforms about explosive devices, military and tactical training, weapons manufacturing, combat techniques and the creation of fake documents to facilitate a terrorist attack.

If convicted, the 22‑year‑old could be sentenced to life imprisonment, the maximum penalty for terrorism offences in Australia.

WA Joint Counter Terrorism Team is a partnership between the state police, the Australian Federal Police and the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The initial arrest in December linked the suspect to nine separate terrorism‑related allegations, which were broadened after authorities uncovered further evidence of planning.

While a senior Xinhua correspondent reported these facts, the claim remains pending court proceedings, and no judicial ruling has yet confirmed the charges.

Further details are expected as the case proceeds in court, and authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant while they complete their investigation.
