In a groundbreaking performance at the Indian Premier League (IPL), 14-year-old batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi made headlines by becoming the youngest player to score a century in men’s T20 history. Playing for the Rajasthan Royals, Suryavanshi achieved this remarkable feat during a match against the Gujarat Titans in Jaipur on April 19, hitting an astonishing 101 runs off just 38 balls. His knock included an impressive 11 sixes and seven fours, making it the fastest century by an Indian in IPL history, reaching the milestone in just 35 balls.

The Royals chased down a target of 210 runs, with Suryavanshi’s century contributing to an emphatic victory by eight wickets. Alongside him, Yashasvi Jaiswal brought stability to the innings, finishing with an unbeaten 70 runs from 40 deliveries. Their partnership was vital as they combined for a substantial 166 runs, successfully securing the win and snapping a five-game losing streak for Rajasthan.

Suryavanshi, who was signed for £103,789 (1.1 crore rupees) at last year’s IPL auction, had already made history earlier this month as the youngest player to take the field in the tournament. He had previously garnered attention last October with a blistering century for India's Under-19 team against Australia. In his burgeoning career, he has played for Bihar in first-class cricket, debuting at just 12 years old.

Despite their loss, the Gujarat Titans witnessed outstanding performances from Shubman Gill, who made 84 off 50 balls, and Jos Buttler, contributing an unbeaten half-century. Following the loss, the Titans fell to third place in the IPL standings on net run rate. Suryavanshi’s familiar swagger at the crease has ignited excitement about his future in cricket and made him a player to watch in the coming matches.
