South Korea’s top security adviser, Wi Sung‑lac, said on Friday that the government will continue to take necessary measures in response to the recent mine blast in the Demilitarized Zone, affirming the country’s focus on peace and coexistence after the September incident that wounded three soldiers, two seriously.
At a press briefing in Seoul, Wi stated,
Our government will continue taking necessary measures in response to the DMZ mine blast incident based on clear principles.
He added that the government would focus its resources on creating peace that makes fighting unnecessary, consistently pursuing its policy of peaceful coexistence.
The statement follows the detonation of North Korean land mines inside the DMZ in September that wounded three South Korean soldiers, according to Yonhap News.
Yonhap notes that the incident prompted a review of the country’s defensive posture along the buffer zone. Wi’s remarks are the latest official communication on the matter.
