In a rapid response by Bulgarian authorities, a plane arriving from Israel was put under counter‑terrorism inspection at Sofia Airport after a bomb threat was received via email on Tuesday, Interior Ministry action secretary Lyubomir Nikolov announced.
The aircraft landed at Sofia airport amid heightened security measures, and teams from the military and police began a thorough search for possible explosive devices. According to the Interior Ministry liaison, the inspection was completed without any incidents, and the plane was cleared to depart.
Local media reported the email bomb alert earlier that day, prompting the immediate deployment of the counter‑terrorism units. Nikolov’s statement confirmed the ministry’s swift action and underscored the seriousness with which the threat was treated.
While the investigation is ongoing, authorities have stated that no evidence of an actual bomb was found. Passengers and flight crew were temporarily detained for questioning before the aircraft resumed its journey to its original destination.
