In brief

In a revealing interview, Eva Longoria expressed her family's choice to live outside the United States, citing the country's "dystopian" atmosphere post-Covid-19, exacerbated by economic distress and political shifts.

In a recent interview with French magazine Marie Claire, Eva Longoria spoke candidly about her family's decision to live part-time in Mexico and Spain, moving away from what she described as a "dystopian" United States. The actress, well-known for her role on Desperate Housewives, attributed this major change to the country's shifting landscape following the Covid-19 pandemic, alongside issues like rising homeless rates and excessive taxation in California. Longoria acknowledged her privilege in being able to make such a move, reflecting on the unfortunate reality for many Americans who cannot escape the current circumstances: “Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country.” As a notable figure in Democratic politics, Longoria has dedicated herself to advocating for women and Latino representation, participating actively in campaigns since at least 2012. She recently supported Kamala Harris, echoing Barack Obama’s famous phrase “Yes, we can” with a new interpretation—“She se puede.” Longoria expressed her disappointment over Donald Trump's victory, claiming it shattered her faith in the political system: "I had my whole adult life here... it just feels like this chapter in my life is done now." Originally from Texas, Longoria moved to California in her twenties and has visually contributed to the political dialogue through her work and public appearances. With a background that includes a Golden Globe nomination in 2006 for her role in Desperate Housewives and hosting CNN's mini-series "Searching for Mexico" and "Searching for Spain," she continues to balance her professional and personal lives. Longoria is married to José "Pepe" Bastón, the president of Mexican broadcaster Televisa, with whom she shares a six-year-old son, Santiago. Bastón also has three children from a previous marriage.
