Hunter Biden has unleashed a barrage of criticism against George Clooney following the actor's seemingly dismissive remarks about President Joe Biden's mental acuity, a commentary that Hunter claims contributed to the president's withdrawal from the 2024 election.

In a recent interview with the YouTube channel Channel 5, hosted by Andrew Callaghan, Hunter Biden expressed his outrage at Clooney's statements, framing them as an exaggerated depiction of his father's capabilities. The actor, having met Joe Biden at a fundraising event in Los Angeles, later penned an op-ed for the New York Times titled "I Love Joe Biden. But We Need a New Nominee" where he urged Joe Biden to step aside for new leadership. Following Clooney's intervention, the elder Biden announced he would not be seeking re-election, paving the way for Vice-President Kamala Harris to become the Democratic nominee for the upcoming election, ultimately losing to Republican Donald Trump.

Clooney's opinion piece criticized Biden particularly after his faltering performance in a debate against Trump, where he seemed to struggle with clarity. Hunter Biden defended his father, attributing his father's debate mishaps to a taxing travel schedule and the use of Ambien to manage sleep issues, insisting that such struggles do not reflect Biden's actual capabilities. "They give him Ambien to be able to sleep," Hunter noted, suggesting it was unfair for Clooney to criticize a sitting president without understanding the full context.

The actor's remarks have received scrutiny, particularly after journalists Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson released a book detailing Joe Biden's unnerving demeanor during a charity meeting with Clooney, stating he seemed "severely diminished" and did not recognize the actor. Hunter vehemently contested these accounts, accusing Clooney of attempting to undermine his father's presidency.

In response to Clooney's willingness to weigh in on the political arena, Hunter Biden questioned the actor's authority: "What do you have to do with… anything. Why do I have to… listen to you?" He pointed out Clooney's purported political motivations, suggesting they stem from a difference of opinion over U.S.-Israel relations, noted by Clooney's wife's involvement in contentious legal discussions regarding Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Furthermore, Hunter lightly dismissed allegations suggesting he played an influential role in White House meetings during his father's last months in office, even after facing legal challenges linked to felony weapons charges and tax evasion.

Prior to his departure from the presidency, Joe Biden pardoned Hunter following serious legal troubles that became a focal point during the 2020 election cycle when information from a laptop he owned gained notoriety. Although the credibility of the laptop's content was initially questioned, it was later authenticated. Despite these controversies, President Biden still secured a victory against Trump in the 2020 election.

In previous discussions, Biden reflected on his decision not to pursue another term, stating he did not regret his exit from the race but acknowledged uncertainties about whether an earlier withdrawal would have altered the election's outcome. Repeated health concerns, following his prostate cancer diagnosis earlier this year, have reignited conversation surrounding his fitness to serve.

As the conflict between the Bidens and Clooney continues to unfold, it underscores the ongoing challenges and dynamic debates within the Democratic party leading into the next electoral cycle.
