Las Vegas police have identified Matthew Alan Livelsberger, a 37-year-old active-duty special forces soldier, as the renter of a Tesla Cybertruck that exploded outside President-elect Donald Trump's hotel in Las Vegas. The explosion, which occurred after Livelsberger drove the vehicle from Colorado, resulted in injuries to seven bystanders, although all were reported to be minor. Authorities believe that Livelsberger was found dead in the vehicle, but they are awaiting DNA confirmation due to the extensive damage caused by the explosion.
Las Vegas Sheriff Kevin McMahill reported that Livelsberger's body was discovered with severe burns and a gunshot wound to the head, which is thought to be self-inflicted. The Cybertruck was filled with fuel canisters and fireworks at the time of the blast, prompting police to label the incident as a probable suicide combined with a bombing. The soldier had been on active duty since December 2012 and was home on leave to visit family, including his wife and eight-month-old daughter.
Livelsberger’s father shared that he last communicated with his son during the Christmas holidays, noting that everything seemed normal at the time. Authorities continue to investigate the incident, with officials stating that they have yet to determine a clear motive for this tragic event. More details are expected to emerge as the story develops.
