In brief
Hadi Nazari, a 23-year-old man, was located alive by fellow hikers on Wednesday after being lost for almost two weeks in the wilds of Australia. During his time in the Kosciuszko National Park, Nazari managed to survive on only two granola bars and water from natural sources.
Over the holidays on December 26th, Nazari set out for a hike but did not return to his campsite, prompting his friends to report him missing to police later that day. His disappearance sparked a large-scale search operation involving around 400 personnel who scoured the area both from the air and on foot for nearly 13 days. Searchers maintained optimism throughout the ordeal, given Nazari's experience and his supplies, which included camping gear packed in his backpack.Various remnants believed to belong to Nazari, such as rubbish and hiking poles, were discovered around the Kosciuszko River shortly after his disappearance, suggesting he had passed through that region. As the search intensified, authorities noted the challenging terrain filled with dense vegetation made the operation particularly arduous. Miraculously, on Wednesday afternoon, a group of hikers near Blue Lake stumbled upon Nazari, who was calling for help. His dehydration and fatigue were apparent, but he was immediately airlifted for evaluation by paramedics, marking a successful end to a long and grueling search. The situation serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of wilderness hiking and the importance of safety precautions.
