In brief

A sand cliff collapsed onto a tent camp in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, Sunday evening, killing five Palestinians—three children, a woman, and another adult—according to a civil‑defense spokesperson. Rescue teams are still searching for missing members amid an earlier flood that affected tens of thousands of tents.

A sand cliff collapsed onto tents sheltering displaced families in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, on Sunday evening, killing five people, including three children, officials said. The incident was confirmed by Gaza’s Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmoud Basal and reported by Xinhua.

Basal said the cliff gave way due to heavy rain, killing five—including three children and a woman—and injuring several others, some seriously, he added.

"The collapse killed five people, including three children and a woman, and injured several others, some seriously," said Mahmoud Basal.

The collapse followed a severe rainfall that flooded tens of thousands of tents in Gaza. Xinhua noted that a low‑pressure weather system had hit the Strip the day before, causing around 70,000 tents to be flooded and worsening living conditions for displaced families.

Rescue teams are still searching for missing people at the site, Basal said. WAFA later updated that the death toll had risen to five as the collapse continued to engulf the tent cluster. Both outlets reported the same casualty figure but did not calibrate against additional independent sources.

Eyewitnesses on the ground are still arriving at the site, and local social‑media feeds show firsthand images of the collapsed tents. PulseWire’s live‑stream feed is continuing to capture emerging details as rescue efforts proceed.
