Evhen Povarenkov, a warehouse worker, mirrored the sentiments of many affected residents. Peering at the wreckage of his apartment in the Solomianskyi neighbourhood, he recalled being in bed when the cruise missile struck, causing chaos as he lost consciousness. “There was heat, fire, and smoke,” he said, while struggling to rescue his elderly mother, who sustained severe injuries during the blast.
The onslaught, which commenced just after midnight, involved over 440 drones and 32 missiles, according to Ukraine's air force. The assault lasted around nine hours, marking one of the most intense attacks since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion. Among the most affected locations was Povarenkov's building, where personal belongings were scattered, and the devastation left many families completely displaced.
Reports from the scene depicted harrowing images of survivors attempting to navigate the dangers of burning cars and debris. Residents including 60-year-old pensioner Arcadiy Volenchuk described the confusion and desperation as they sought safe passage amid the wreckage. "Everything was on fire," he recounted.
