Liam Payne's friend Roger Nores has initiated a defamation lawsuit against the singer's father, Geoff Payne, concerning statements made in the wake of Liam's death. The former One Direction star, who passed away at 31 from "multiple trauma" and "internal and external hemorrhage" after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, has left a trail of controversy and grief.

In a legal filing submitted in Florida on Wednesday, Nores accused Geoff Payne of making "false" declarations to Argentine authorities, asserting that these statements were not only incorrect but also based on personal knowledge that was omitted. The statements in question suggested that Nores, along with Liam’s girlfriend Kate Cassidy, had a caretaking role over the singer, whose struggles with addiction were noted.

However, Nores contested this portrayal, stating that he shared a "dear mutual friendship" with Liam but never held any legal responsibility for him, emphasizing that Liam was an independent adult capable of making his own choices. The lawsuit claims that these representations have adversely affected Nores' reputation to a significant extent, leading to "mega proportions" of damage.

In a poignant note, the lawsuit states that any monetary compensation received will be donated to Liam's son, Bear, who he had with ex-girlfriend Cheryl, a former member of Girls Aloud. Cheryl was seen among the attendees at Liam's star-studded funeral, which was notably supported by his former bandmates.

As the UK inquest into Liam Payne's death remains adjourned until a review scheduled for 6 November, media inquiries have been made to both Mr. Nores and Mr. Payne for further comments. Meanwhile, the public continues to engage with the unfolding narrative surrounding the beloved singer's legacy.
