In a shocking development from Colombia’s Micay Canyon, military officials have reported that 57 soldiers were abducted by a civilian group in the southwestern area known for its role in cocaine production. The kidnappings occurred over the weekend, with the first wave on Saturday involving 31 soldiers and an additional 26 on Sunday, according to military statements.

Brigadier General Federico Alberto Mejia, in a video released on social media, labeled the incident as a "kidnapping," emphasizing its severe implications. Local media have suggested that the dissident faction of the Farc guerrilla group, known as the EMC, may have orchestrated the kidnappings. The EMC has not yet responded to inquiries regarding the matter.

The Micay Canyon is a strategic location for drug trafficking, facilitating the transport of cocaine to Pacific ports for illegal export. The abductions highlight the ongoing volatility in Colombia, where tensions between government forces and rebel groups continue to pose significant challenges to security. As the investigation unfolds, military and civilian safety in the area remains a pressing concern.
