In the latest outbreak of violence in Sudan's civil war, paramilitary fighters targeted the city of Nahud, resulting in the deaths of over 100 civilians, according to a statement from the Sudan Doctors Network. Among the deceased are reported to be at least 21 children and 15 women, highlighting the severe impact on innocent lives amidst the ongoing conflict.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a key paramilitary group involved in the civil war, claimed responsibility for the attack as it aimed to seize territories along a crucial highway connecting Khartoum to Darfur, a region that has seen increasing domination by these forces. The UN human rights chief, Volker Türk, emphasized the severity of the situation, revealing that 542 civilians have been killed in just the past three weeks, suggesting that the actual numbers may be significantly higher.

"The horror unfolding in Sudan knows no bounds," Türk stated, voicing his alarm as the RSF warned of impending "bloodshed" in their push for control. Following a successful campaign that ousted RSF from Khartoum in March, the Sudanese military has been struggling to contain the group's expansion, which has become increasingly aggressive in Darfur.

The Doctors Network, who released the information about the massacre, also alleged that RSF troops went on to loot essential medical supplies, markets, and even a hospital, deepening the crisis for civilians in the region. The brutal attacks highlight the urgent need for international intervention and humanitarian assistance, as the conflict shows no signs of abating.
