LELAND, Miss. — In the aftermath of a tragic mass shooting in Leland, Mississippi, local law enforcement and community leaders are calling for public assistance in identifying individuals wanted for questioning. The incident, which occurred during a lively homecoming weekend celebration, claimed the lives of six people and left over a dozen injured.

A press conference is scheduled for Thursday afternoon at Leland City Hall, where police and officials from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, the FBI, and other agencies will provide updates on the investigation. We’re still trying to gather information on possible suspects out there,” Leland Mayor John Lee stated.

Multiple suspects have already been charged with capital murder regarding the mass shooting that occurred Friday night shortly after a high school football game. The FBI's Jackson Field Office has released photos of suspects that police wish to question in connection with the shooting.

“It’s still kind of numbness at this point,” Mayor Lee added, noting the community's grieving families are still seeking closure. Funeral arrangements for victims have not yet been finalized.

The shooting disrupted what is typically a joyous occasion in Leland, a town where community members gather for homecoming festivities. “This is not anything that’s happened anywhere close to our community ever before,” Lee remarked.

The violence is part of a disturbing trend, as the Leland shooting is among several violent incidents that occurred across Mississippi that weekend, including other shootings at nearby towns and universities celebrating their homecoming events. Authorities have not disclosed a potential motive for the incidents, but investigations suggest the gunfire was initiated by disputes between individuals.

Witness Camish Hopkins described seeing multiple injuries and fatalities at the scene, labeling it the most horrific experience of his life. Local authorities are urging any residents with information to come forward to assist in seeking justice for the victims and their families.
