Incident Details
Xinhua notes that the wreckage was found close to the Potou Saradao area of the Kebemer department, with the boat having struck the coast a day earlier. The recovery effort involved shore parties and local authorities coordinating to retrieve the bodies from the shoreline.
Local officials have not yet issued casualty figures beyond the general estimate of around twenty victims. The authorities are working with forensic teams to conduct the necessary identification procedures.
As the investigation continues, the Senegalese police and navy are monitoring the site for additional wreckage or evidence that might explain why the boat ran aground. Officials are also reviewing maritime records to ascertain whether a larger number of passengers were present on the vessel.
