The Lithuanian army has ramped up efforts to locate four US soldiers who have been missing for two days following a training exercise near Pabrade, close to the border with Belarus. Reports indicated that the soldiers and their tracked vehicle went missing on Tuesday afternoon, prompting an urgent response from military and emergency services.
The US Army has confirmed that the vehicle has been located submerged in water, sparking fears regarding the soldiers' safety. However, the Lithuanian military has stated that there is currently no evidence to confirm any fatalities among the troops. NATO chief Mark Rutte mentioned receiving reports of their deaths but noted the absence of further information at this time.
In a joint effort, Lithuanian and allied troops, including helicopters and border guards, are actively engaged in the search operation. The US soldiers were part of the 1st Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, actively participating in scheduled tactical training when they went missing.
