A 42-year-old woman from Peru has been apprehended in Bali for allegedly trying to smuggle approximately $70,000 worth of cocaine and ecstasy hidden in her body and in a sex toy. Identified only by her initials, N.S., the woman drew the attention of customs officials due to her suspicious behavior, leading to her immediate arrest.
According to Radiant, director of the Bali police's narcotics unit, authorities discovered the narcotics sealed in six plastic packages wrapped in duct tape inside her green bra, three packages in black underwear, and a sex toy that contained drugs inserted within her body. In total, the haul included 1.4 kilograms (3.1 pounds) of cocaine and 43 ecstasy pills.
The Peruvian woman allegedly confessed to being hired for the job, receiving $19,000 from an individual she had encountered on the dark web back in April. She had traveled from Barcelona, Spain, with a layover in Doha before landing in Bali on August 12.
Indonesia enforces stringent penalties for drug trafficking, and the woman could face the death penalty if convicted, although there has been a moratorium on executions since 2017. Notably, in the previous month, three British citizens narrowly escaped the death penalty after being convicted for smuggling cocaine disguised as Angel Delight packets into Indonesia. The case continues to unfold as authorities work to address the ongoing issue of drug smuggling in the region.
