Satellite images released by BBC Verify show that more than 50 Iranian military bases—including the headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC)—have taken damage in a sequence of US‑Israeli strikes that started on 28 February.
The attacks have shattered airbases, naval installations, ballistic‑missile facilities, and the IRGC’s main compound, forcing US officials to claim that over 13,000 targets across Iran have been struck.
While the US has touted a decisive victory, Iranian satellite photos also reveal repair work at at least four missile bases, underscoring that the regime still has capacity to rebuild and threaten US and allied assets.
The conflict has been punctuated by periodic flare‑ups: after a US helicopter was downed in the Gulf, Iranian forces launched strikes and Israel reacted against Tehran’s air‑space. The US also conducted “self‑defence” waves in southern Iran next week, prompting a response that targeted US assets in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan.
Amid the fighting, more than 1,700 civilians have reportedly been killed, according to Human Rights Activists News Agency, though US military officials challenge those figures. The war’s consequences for civilian infrastructure, along with the ongoing unrest inside Iran, highlight the human cost of a campaign that has been framed by some as a push for regime change.
