Goldie Hawn, Steve Martin, and Ben Stiller have led tributes to Oscar-winning actress Diane Keaton, who has died at the age of 79.
Keaton, born in Los Angeles, shot to fame in the 1970s as Kay Adams-Corleone in 'The Godfather' films. Her memorable performances included starring in 'Father of the Bride,' 'First Wives Club,' and winning the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1978 for 'Annie Hall.'
Fellow 'First Wives Club' co-star Goldie Hawn said Keaton left 'a trail of fairy dust, filled with particles of light and memories beyond imagination.'
Writing on Instagram, Hawn expressed how hard it is to say goodbye, stating, 'You never liked praise, so humble, but now you can't tell me to 'shut up' honey. There was, and will be, no one like you.'
Keaton passed away in California, a family spokesperson confirmed. Bette Midler, another co-star, mourned her death on Instagram, saying, 'The brilliant, beautiful, extraordinary Diane Keaton has died. I cannot tell you how unbearably sad this makes me.' Midler reflected on Keaton's unique charm, saying, 'She was hilarious, a complete original, and completely without guile.'
Steve Martin shared a humorous moment from a past film together, highlighting their delightful relationship, while Ben Stiller noted her impact on cinema as an 'icon of style, humor, and comedy.'
Keaton's career spanned over five decades, starring in many films including 'The Family Stone,' 'Something's Gotta Give,' and various collaborations with Woody Allen. Known for her menswear-inspired fashion and wide-brimmed hats, Keaton also directed several films.
Her legacy remains not only in her films but also in her deep connections with friends and family. She leaves behind two adopted children, a daughter named Dexter and a son named Duke.
Diane Keaton's death marks the end of an era, as she was not just a Hollywood legend but also a cherished friend to many.
