Canadian actor Kiefer Sutherland has been arrested after allegedly assaulting and threatening a ride-share driver in Hollywood, according to police reports.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) stated that Sutherland entered a ride-share vehicle, physically assaulted the driver (the victim), and made criminal threats during an incident at 00:15 PST (08:15 GMT) on Monday. Fortunately, the victim was not injured.

Sutherland, 59, was released after posting a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on February 2. The LAPD is investigating the incident, which took place at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue.

Known for his portrayal of special agent Jack Bauer in the TV series 24 and as the US president in Designated Survivor, Sutherland is also the son of veteran actor Donald Sutherland. This isn't the actor's first brush with the law; he has faced multiple arrests over the years, including a DUI in 2007 that led to a 48-day jail sentence.

Sutherland's legal history includes an assault arrest in 2009, where charges were eventually dropped, and a 2020 arrest for making an illegal U-turn in Hollywood. The Hollywood Division of the LAPD continues to look into the latest allegations against the actor.
