Authorities in New Mexico issued an arrest warrant for director and Emmy Award-winning actor Timothy Busfield to face charges of child sex abuse on Friday.
According to a complaint filed by an investigator with the Albuquerque Police Department, a child reported that Busfield touched him inappropriately during filming for the TV series 'The Cleaning Lady'.
Allegations claim the first incident occurred when the child was 7 years old, with accusations that Busfield touched him multiple times. Further incidents were reported to have transpired when the child was 8.
The child’s mother informed Child Protective Services about the incidents which were said to take place between November 2022 and spring 2024. The complaint states that the child, identified only by initials, has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety, suffering from nightmares about the events.
Busfield’s legal representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comments.
The warrant includes two counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor. The investigation began in November 2024 when a doctor at the University of New Mexico Hospital contacted authorities based on the child's parents seeking legal advice.
'The Cleaning Lady', which aired on Fox for four seasons until 2025, featured Elodie Yung as a Cambodian doctor caught in organized crime’s crossfire.
The allegations have prompted Warner Bros. to conduct their own investigation which reportedly could not substantiate the claims.
Busfield is known for roles in 'The West Wing', 'Field of Dreams', and 'Thirtysomething', for which he won an Emmy in 1991. He is married to actor Melissa Gilbert, yet no comment has come forth from her publicist regarding this situation.
