CHICAGO — Hoan Huynh, a state legislator from Chicago’s North Side, faced a harrowing encounter with federal agents while disseminating information on heightened immigration enforcement in the area. Reports emerged that federal agents brandished weapons, escalated threats, and even detained local officials, contributing to a growing atmosphere of fear among immigrant communities.

Huynh recounted the experience, emphasizing that both he and his staff remained non-violent and made their official roles clear during their confrontation with law enforcement. “We identified ourselves as an elected official and my hands were visible,” he remarked, reflecting on the alarming nature of the encounter.

The incidents have escalated as the Biden administration intensifies its immigration policies, drawing significant criticism from local Democrats who consider these actions as intimidation tactics.
