Russian Missile Strike on Drone Exhibition Near Kyiv Kills Ten and Injures Hundreds

On Saturday, a Russian ballistic missile strike hit a drone showcase near Kyiv, killing 10 people and reportedly injuring around 100 attendees. The exhibition was attended by prominent defence officials and showcased emerging drone technologies.

President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that the attack was a response to Ukrainian strikes on Russian targets earlier in the week, including the Ukrainian attack on a factory in Kirov and warehouses of the Russian online retailer Wildberries.

In addition to the Kyiv strike, Russian glide bombs killed five people in the eastern city of Slaviansk, while two men were killed in Sumy early Saturday. This follows Ukrainian strikes on Kirov and Wildberries facilities, prompting Russia to threaten another major missile attack within 48 hours.

Ukrainian forces reported that a Ukrainian strike had killed six people and wounded 26 in Kirov, over 1,000 km (600 miles) behind the front line. Ukraine also struck Wildberries warehouses, interrupting logistics that may supply military equipment to Russia.

Following the attack, Ukrainian Defence Ministry adviser Serhiy Beskrestnov (also known as Flash) and Lyuba Shypovych confirmed on social media that they were unharmed. Beskrestnov had avoided the event, citing security concerns.

Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuri Ihnat said the attack involved three ballistic missiles, with only one intercepted. Russia confirmed the strike, stating that the site housed drones used to target civil areas in Russia, and that Ukrainian drone forces and security services were present.

This is at least the third time an exhibition of this kind has been hit since Russia’s full‑scale invasion in 2022. Ukrainian authorities are investigating the event’s planning and security measures.

Alongside the Ukrainian response, Romania reported that an F‑16 fighter jet shot down a Russian drone that breached its airspace on Friday, raising international security concerns.

For context, Ukrainian President Zelensky is expected to travel to the United States next week to meet President Donald Trump, as part of renewed peace talk efforts.
