A 48-year-old man, Jimmy Wayne Carwyle, has been charged with stalking and vandalism following an alarming incident involving actress Jennifer Aniston. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office reported that Carwyle drove his vehicle through the front gate of Aniston’s Bel Air residence on Monday, marking a serious escalation in a pattern of harassment that reportedly began nearly two years ago.
Prosecutors maintain that Carwyle has been persistently harassing Aniston since March 1, 2023, alleging he sent her unwanted messages through social media, voicemail, and email. The District Attorney, Nathan J. Hochman, emphasized the dangers of stalking, warning that it can evolve from mere harassment to violent actions endangering victims and the wider community.
After crashing through the home’s gate—a destruction noted to be substantial—Carwyle reportedly parked his vehicle in Aniston’s driveway, where he was subsequently apprehended by her security personnel until police arrived to arrest him.
This incident comes shortly after Aniston's mansion was highlighted in Architectural Digest, showcasing its midcentury-modern design. Notably, Aniston had also hosted her wedding to actor Justin Theroux on the property before their divorce.
According to a friend of Carwyle’s, Marty Merritt, the harassment began in the aftermath of the pandemic. Merritt shared in a Facebook video that Carwyle began to express bizarre beliefs, claiming divine connections and developing a fixation with Aniston, desiring to marry her.
While Aniston has yet to make a public statement regarding the incident, Merritt expressed his sympathy for her situation in his video. The ongoing legal proceedings could mean up to three years in prison for Carwyle if he is convicted.
