The U.S. military has confirmed that four soldiers from the 1st Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division have gone missing during a tactical training exercise in eastern Lithuania, leading to a coordinated search effort. The soldiers were stationed near Pabrade, a city located close to the Belarus border when they were reported missing on Tuesday afternoon. The Lithuanian Armed Forces and local law enforcement have joined the U.S. military in the search, utilizing resources including Air Force helicopters to examine a potential accident site within the training area. Lt. Gen. Charles Costanza, commander of the U.S. Army's V Corps, praised the quick response from Lithuanian first responders and emphasized the significance of their partnership in these operations, stating, “It’s this kind of teamwork and support that exemplifies the importance of our partnership.”The region is notable for its regular NATO training missions, and Lithuania remains a steadfast supporter of Ukraine amid ongoing tensions with Russia. The search for the missing soldiers reflects not only the challenges of military training in allied territories but also the close ties forged between NATO partners in response to regional security concerns.
