Flash floods bury central Nepal, 49 rescued and 5 missing
The Gorkha district in central Nepal has suffered a severe flash flood that swept away multiple homes, bridges and a hydropower camp. Army reports confirm that 49 people have been rescued, though five remain missing.
Investigators say the flood was triggered by a landslide upstream on the Budhi Gandaki River. The sudden surge of water swallowed four key bridges and nearly two dozen houses, causing widespread damage across the valley.
The event follows the catastrophic floods and landslides that struck Nepal’s border towns with Tibet two months ago, which left thousands dead, missing and left much of the country scrambling to recover its critical infrastructure.
