Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit Speaks Out on Jeffrey Epstein Links
Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit has told national TV that she wishes she had never met late US sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, breaking her silence seven weeks after reports emerged about her contacts with him.
I feel so manipulated, and when you are manipulated, you don't realise it from the start, Mette-Marit shared in a heartfelt 20-minute interview aired on NRK, where she was visibly emotional.
In January, it was revealed that the Crown Princess had exchanged hundreds of emails with Epstein between 2011 and 2014, and had even stayed at his Florida residence. It is incredibly important for me to take responsibility for not checking his background more carefully, she expressed. And to take responsibility for being so manipulated and deceived as I was.
Mette-Marit previously admitted to poor judgement regarding her relationship with Epstein as the scandal unfolded after the release of millions of Epstein-related files by the US justice department. She emphasized the need for justice for Epstein's victims, expressing her frustration that they have not received it.
The Crown Princess's decision to speak comes after significant pressure for accountability, including calls from Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. Her public statements have raised further questions, as she maintained during the interview that she was unaware of Epstein's criminal background, despite documentation indicating otherwise.
In the interview, Mette-Marit noted that her health conditions limited her appearance, and she acknowledged that her future role within the royal family is uncertain due to her serious illness, pulmonary fibrosis. Despite the challenges, she affirmed her dedication to supporting her husband, Crown Prince Haakon, and the Norwegian royal family.
