Authorities in Florida have arrested a man wanted for allegedly planning a mass shooting at a significant music festival in New Orleans. The suspect, a resident of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, was apprehended at a hotel in Destin, Florida, where police found a handgun and around 200 rounds of ammunition in his possession.

Though the specific event was not named in the official statements, the timing coincides with the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, a popular celebration of Louisiana's music, food, and culture, which is set to take place from Thursday through May 3, attracting a potential crowd of thousands.

According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, federal authorities had flagged the man as a fugitive due to threats he allegedly made, prompting law enforcement assistance that spanned multiple states.

The sheriff’s office clarified that there were no known direct threats to any festivals in Louisiana, a statement supported by Louisiana State Police. Mayor Healena Moreno commended the coordinated law enforcement efforts involved in apprehending the suspect.

As the investigation continues, the suspect will be extradited to Louisiana to face charges, but details regarding his legal representation remain unclear.
