K-Pop Breaks Barriers: 'KPop Demon Hunters' Claims Grammy History
In a groundbreaking moment at this year's Grammy Awards, the anthem 'Golden' from the Netflix movie 'KPop Demon Hunters' swept the awards with its remarkable recognition as the first K-Pop song to win a Grammy Award.
Performed by the fictional band Huntr/x, 'Golden' secured the award for Best Song for Visual Media as the awards ceremony got underway in Los Angeles. Additionally, it is nominated for Song of the Year.
Other early winners comprised British stars Yungblud, who claimed Best Rock Performance for his live rendition of Black Sabbath's 'Changes,' and FKA Twigs, who won Best Dance/Electronic Album for 'Eusexua.' Meanwhile, the Dalai Lama took home the Best Audiobook award.
Ahead of the main ceremony, Kendrick Lamar garnered three awards including Best Rap Song for 'TV Off,' positioning him strongly for the highly contested Album of the Year category.
'KPop Demon Hunters' has continuously impressed audiences since its release last June, becoming Netflix's most-viewed movie of all time, with over 480 million views. The film features a vibrant soundtrack filled with catchy tunes and has topped the Billboard charts, mirroring the frenzy created by Disney's 'Encanto' in 2022.
The Grammy wins for 'Golden' signal a growing acknowledgment of the cultural power and commercial impact of K-Pop, with artists like Blackpink's Rosé also vying for awards this year.
As the night proceeds, expectations soar for other nominees from diverse musical genres, steadying the stage for a memorable Grammy ceremony.
