The Civil Guard police acted after discovering the couple’s online sales activities, resulting in a raid on their home where 19 exotic felines were rescued, including caracals, servals, and hybrids. Authorities described the couple's actions as part of a larger global criminal operation linking breeders and transporters.

It was reported that the animals were illegally obtained from countries like Russia and Ukraine, smuggled into the EU through Poland, and marketed through an extensive social media network. This trend is part of a rising problem as Europe becomes a hotspot for the illicit wildlife trade, according to the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW).

Among the animals confiscated, a clouded leopard was listed with a staggering price tag of €60,000 ($68,000), highlighting the lucrative nature of the illegal market. As the demand for exotic species continues to rise, authorities warn of the consequences, as many of these animals pose a serious risk to their owners and the environment. The rescued cats are currently sheltered at Son Servera Safari Zoo and will eventually be moved to a rescue organization near Alicante.

The investigation remains ongoing, with connections to other illegal sales activities being scrutinized.
