Five more suspects have been arrested over their involvement in the Louvre heist, Paris' public prosecutor has said.

They were taken into custody during coordinated raids in the Paris region, according to Laure Beccuau. One of the suspects is believed to be part of the four-man team that executed the heist, which was captured on CCTV.

Previous to this, two suspects had already been apprehended, both of whom acknowledged “partial recognition” of their participation in the robbery. However, the fourth suspect from the original team remains at large.

The specific roles of the newly arrested individuals in the theft have yet to be determined, but Beccuau indicated that they could provide insights on how the heist was orchestrated.

Investigations led to the apprehension of suspects from various suburbs around Paris, including Seine-Saint-Denis. Items seized during the raids have provided authorities with access to encrypted messages.

Those arrested can be held for up to four days pending charges or release.

French investigators have not disclosed additional details but indicated that DNA evidence from one of the arrested suspects could link back to the crime scene. Beccuau noted that these arrests are related to different evidence than previously detained suspects, pointing towards a more extensive criminal network.

On October 19, items worth €88 million were stolen from the Louvre, including priceless crown jewels, during a brazen daylight heist. The security failures at one of the world's most renowned museums came under scrutiny as it was revealed that critical security cameras were not properly positioned to monitor the area where the thieves gained entry.
