Explosion Rocks Sneaker Shop in Surabaya
CCTV cameras captured a sudden blast that tore a small sneaker store in Surabaya’s San Antonio district, Indonesia. The video shows the shop’s façade shattering in a shockwave before smoke billows into the street.
Indonesian police confirmed the explosion was “strongly suspected” to have been caused by a gas leak, and that no suspicious substances or explosives were found at the scene. Investigators are still tracing the source of the leak.
Five people were hospitalized with injuries ranging from burns to internal trauma. The incident has left the local community on edge, as authorities scramble to ensure safety and investigate the cause.
Authorities reported that at least 41 buildings in the surrounding area suffered damage, from shattered windows to structural cracks. Residents are being advised to stay clear of the impacted zone until a full safety assessment is completed.
Surabaya’s city council has called for a review of gas infrastructure in commercial districts ahead of the upcoming community safety week.
