Canada to Join Eurovision Song Contest 2027

Canada will take part in the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest, organisers have announced.

With its news and media‑bounded presence, the country is becoming a new participant after Australia joined the contest in 2015. The move follows a turbulent 2026 contest where long‑standing entrants such as Ireland and Spain withdrew over the debate surrounding Israel’s eligibility.

The path for Canada was cleared last week when CBC/Radio‑Canada became a full member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the organisation that stages the annual competition.

Canada already has a living Eurovision legend: Quebec-born Celine Dion famously represented Switzerland in 1988 and won with “Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi.” In following years she was joined by Natasha St‑Pier (representing France in 2001) and La Zarra (Montreal, France, 2023).

The country will make its debut at next year’s semi‑finals in Bulgaria. A selection process will be announced by CBC later in 2026 and will decide which Canadian act will earn the right to compete.

Although Israel’s participation sparked protests among some European members, the EBU’s stance has kept the festival’s integrity intact. The organisation’s director general, Noel Curran, praised Canada’s inclusion as a strengthening addition to the “community.”

Eurovision 2026, won by Bulgarian pop star Dara with “Bangarang,” will set the scene for the 2027 contest to be held in Sofia.
