On Saturday, the heart of Seoul turned into a sea of purple as BTS returned to the stage with a spectacular comeback concert. The city was alight with excitement, draped in the band’s signature color and celebrating their return after a break of more than three years for mandatory military service.
Fans adorned in matching outfits, waving colored light sticks, expressed their joy and anticipation. One fan, Veronica, who traveled from the US, stated, BTS is everything for us, highlighting the deep connection many fans share with the group.
As twilight descended, the streets filled with the sounds of chants and cheers, culminating with BTS's leader, RM, greeting fans in Korean before declaring in English, We are back. The band took to a stage resembling a triumphal arch before performing their new song Body to Body intertwined with the traditional Korean song Arirang.
The concert was a visual delight, with the stage illuminated in red and filled with the energy of the massive crowd. Although attendance was lower than anticipated, the tens of thousands who showed up made their presence felt, echoing their support and enthusiasm.
The night, however, was not without its controversies, as some city residents questioned the resources devoted to the concert, which was streamed live on Netflix.
Despite the criticisms, the government's decision to host such a monumental event reflected the importance of BTS in promoting South Korean culture on the global stage. As the concert concluded with an emotional performance of Mikrokosmos, fans felt renewed inspiration and the promise of what’s to come from this iconic group.
