In brief
The bombing in southwestern Pakistan resulted in at least six fatalities, with four of the victims being students, as tensions continue to escalate in Balochistan Province.
In a harrowing attack on Wednesday morning, a school bus carrying 46 children was struck by a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device in Pakistan’s Balochistan Province. The tragic incident, which claimed the lives of four students, the bus driver, and a helper, highlights the ongoing violence in this region known for separatist movements and militancy. Balochistan’s Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti confirmed the casualties during a press conference in Quetta, emphasizing that militant groups have increasingly targeted vulnerable individuals, particularly children, in recent months. The attack occurred in Khuzdar district, roughly 180 miles south of Quetta, along a significant route linking Quetta to Karachi, Sindh's capital. The school bus was transporting students from various localities to a military-run institution located within a high-security area, according to officials. As investigations proceed, the incident raises fresh concerns about the safety of children in conflict-affected areas of Pakistan.
