"An Australian couple, traveling on Qatar Airways, experienced a chilling flight after cabin crew placed a deceased passenger's body next to them. They criticized the airline for inadequate response and care following the incident."
An Australian couple have shared their distressing experience on a Qatar Airways flight where the body of a deceased passenger was placed next to them. Mitchell Ring and Jennifer Colin were en route to Venice from Melbourne when a woman collapsed in the aisle, leading to a chaotic situation that ended with the woman's corpse being positioned beside Mr. Ring for the remainder of the flight. The couple described the event as "traumatic," recalling how cabin crew attempted to first assist the woman but ultimately failed to save her. Frustrated with the circumstances, the crew opted to place the deceased woman beside Mr. Ring instead of relocating her body to vacant seats within the cabin. Ms. Colin was able to move, but her husband was left to deal with the difficult situation.Upon landing, passengers were instructed to remain seated as medical personnel and police boarded the aircraft. Mr. Ring described the moment he saw the woman’s face when the blankets were pulled back, and expressed disbelief over being told to stay in their seats during such a distressing moment. The couple has since voiced concerns about the lack of support from Qatar Airways and Qantas. They stated that, although they understand the airline cannot be held accountable for the passenger's death, there should be established protocols to support travelers in such incidents. Qatar Airways issued an apology, stating their condolences to the deceased's family and addressing the distress caused to other passengers. A spokesperson for Qantas clarified that the situation was managed by Qatar Airways, emphasizing their protocol for addressing onboard incidents.
